NUTN Alumna Lin Chia-Wen Clinches Double Victory at the 2025 Australian Open Deaf Tennis Championships

National University of Tainan (NUTN) alumna Lin Chia-Wen has achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Australian Open Deaf Tennis Championships, winning the gold medal in women's doubles and the bronze medal in women's singles. Lin is now focused on her preparations for the 25th Deaflympics, scheduled to take place in Tokyo in November, where she aims to continue showcasing Taiwan's talent on the international stage. Her outstanding performance has brought immense pride to NUTN.
Lin's journey has been marked by determination in the face of adversity. Diagnosed with mild hearing nerve damage at the age of two, coupled with a history of pneumonia during her childhood, she faced physical challenges. However, her parents encouraged her to engage in sports to boost her immune system. Lin began playing tennis in the fourth grade of elementary school, gradually developing a deep passion for the sport. In her first year of junior high, she won the championship at the Tainan City Middle School Sports Meet, solidifying her resolve to pursue tennis professionally. In high school, she fully committed to her athlete dream, never limiting her potential.
At the 2017 Deaflympics in Turkey, she won both the women's singles and doubles gold medals. At the 2022 Deaflympics in Brazil, she earned the gold medal in women's doubles, as well as silver medals in both women's singles and mixed doubles. Lin is set to represent Taiwan for the third time at the Deaflympics, and her perseverance and dedication have led to personal victories while demonstrating her unwavering determination to overcome challenges.
As a graduate from Department of Education, NUTN in 2019, Lin later earned a master's degree in sports from the university in 2022. Reflecting on her time at the university, she recalls that courses such as "Classroom Management" laid the foundation for her future team leadership, while courses related to "Psychological Counseling" helped her better understand the mental states of athletes during competitions. These invaluable experiences have become an integral part of her sports career, continuing to fuel her passion for both sports and education.
NUTN proudly celebrates Lin Chia-Wen's achievements and wishes her the best of luck in the upcoming Deaflympics in Tokyo. The university is dedicated to nurturing students' comprehensive development in knowledge, practice, and social responsibility, providing diverse platforms for students to explore innovation and make an impact across various fields. We look forward to seeing alumni Lin Chia-Wen continue to shine and achieve further success on the court.
