NUTN Welcomes International Freshmen, Easing Transition to Campus Life

On September 1st, National University of Tainan (NUTN) welcomed its newest cohort of international freshmen with a comprehensive orientation program tailored to ease their transition into university life. Hailing from diverse countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, the freshmen were introduced to a range of resources and support systems designed to foster a smooth academic and social integration.

The orientation program, a collaborative effort between the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of International Affairs, began with ice-breaking activities aimed at fostering a sense of community among the newcomers. These activities helped alleviate anxieties associated with entering a new environment and encouraged interaction amongst the diverse student body.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by international students, the Office of Student Affairs structured its orientation program around four key areas:
Legal and Administrative Matters: Students received guidance on navigating crucial processes such as visa applications, driver's license exams, and opening bank accounts, ensuring a smooth acclimation to life in Taiwan.

Life Support Services: Information on student insurance, accommodation options, and emergency protocols was provided, assuring students of readily available support networks.
Academic and Financial Assistance: To support both academic pursuits and financial well-being, the university introduced available scholarship opportunities and part-time job resources. Information about service-learning initiatives, promoting both personal and professional development, was also shared.

Safety and Health: Recognizing the importance of student wellbeing, sessions were dedicated to safety precautions, earthquake preparedness, and health education, empowering students to navigate their new environment confidently.

Senior students from the Overseas Student Association played a pivotal role in welcoming the new cohort, sharing invaluable insights about living in Tainan, from navigating daily life to embracing cultural differences. This peer mentorship provided practical advice and fostered a sense of belonging amongst the freshmen.

The program concluded with a Q&A session, providing students a platform to voice their concerns and expectations. Representatives from the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of International Affairs addressed their queries, ensuring clarity and easing apprehensions. A campus tour led by senior students provided a firsthand understanding of the university environment, further smoothing the transition process.

NUTN remains committed to supporting its international student body, empowering them to navigate the challenges and opportunities of their academic journey. The university is confident that this new cohort will thrive in this environment of growth and support, achieving academic success and making lasting memories.
